For the residents of a large Victorian house in Hampstead, life is all about to change. Handsome young Mark discovers his true sexuality with leather-loving cop Steve; petite blonde-bombshell Stella learns that her boyfriend Hugh has more skeletons in his cupboard than a palaeontologist; eccentric Laura’s nefarious money-making schemes come under scrutiny; and a compulsive serial killer of handsome young men, in search of the perfect victim, is panicking London’s gay community. Will this craving for perfection be finally satisfied, or must the killing continue…?

Sex, drugs and kinky murder are always a powerful mix and Carl Patrick sprinkles sex of every persuasion throughout the fast-moving plot. Part sexy romantic-comedy romp, part homage to Tales of the City, these tales take place across London, from dinner parties to dungeons. For a debut novel this is remarkably assured, great fun to read and we’re already waiting for the sequel. The Pink Paper **** (4 stars)

With the characters reeling from recent events, the tale extends to Brighton and Amsterdam. For handsome young Mark, with his lust for adventure and a natural ability to attract trouble, life will never be the same again. Now sexually liberated and with a host of friends and possible suitors vying for his attention, Mark has some tough choices to make. But then someone new enters his life, determined to steal his heart, mind and body - by force if necessary.

Netherhall Gardens and Beyond is a sexy dark romp with a colourful cast that builds to yet another thrilling climax. But, will anyone be on hand this time to save Mark as events spiral out of control…?

Doing exactly what it says on the cover, Carl Patrick’s follow-up to his delicious debut, Netherhall Gardens, his second book takes us on further adventures with the residents of the eponymous North London mansion block. Most of the book, which picks up literally the morning after the previous one finishes, focuses again on the hunky but inexperienced Mark, although how one man copes with the events thrown at him in the space of two weeks, let alone the amount of sex he seems to get, is anyone’s guess. There’s plenty of romping as Mark moves from couple to threesome to SM orgy, while somehow managing to maintain his alter-ego daytime job as an accountant. Meanwhile his neighbours and friends are dealing with millionaire mothers, caustic cats and murderous exes, although they all seem to find time to compare crises over copious tea and cake, when they’re not having wild sex of any and all varieties. Still the closest thing anyone has come to a British Tales of the City, this is another fun and sexy read from Carl Patrick. The Pink Paper **** (4 stars)
